AKOFS has applied for an Acknowledgement of Compliance for the AKOFS Seafarer mobile drilling facility.

In connection with an AoC application, the PSA conducts audits within selected specialist domains.

From 14 to 16 January 2020, we carried out an audit of AKOFS’s management and follow-up of the working environment on AKOFS Seafarer. During the audit, the facility was in the process of being prepared for operation on the NCS.

Objective

The objective of the audit was to monitor its status in respect of conformity assessments made of the facility's technical condition, organisation and management systems relative to the regulatory working environment requirements for AKOFS Seafarer.

Result

Nine non-conformities were identified, relating to:

  • Ergonomic design
  • Ergonomic assessments
  • Lighting
  • Storage of chemicals
  • Design of the paint shop
  • Chemical working environment in the galley
  • Governing documents
  • Approved occupational health service
  • The normative basis for compliance measurements in the living quarters

In addition, an improvement point was identified concerning noise.

What happens now?

We have asked AKOFS to report on how the non-conformities will be addressed. We have also requested an assessment of the improvement point observed. The deadline for replying is set at 17 March 2020.

Before we issue an AoC, the company must have corrected all known safety-critical non-conformities, and the facility must have been issued with maritime certificates from the appropriate flag state.
