The audit was conducted from 10 to 13 December 2018.

Objective

The objective of the audit of electrical facilities and instrumentation on the Ekofisk 2/4 B and Ekofisk 2/4 K installations was to assess how ConocoPhillips is securing compliance with the authorities’ and its own requirements, and how they are using recognised standards to fulfil the requirements.

Result

The audit identified the following non-conformities:

  • Deficient protection against short circuits, overcurrent and earthing faults.
  • A lack of independence and robustness in the emergency power system.
  • Missing documentation of selectivity in the UPS facility.
  • Inadequate emergency lighting.
  • Deficient classification and maintenance programme.
  • Deficient assessments of the need for gas detection in the battery room.

In addition, improvement points were observed concerning:

  • Familiarity with hazards and restrictions when working in and operating the electrical facilities
  • Decision support for changes to the UPS facility in the drilling module

What happens now?

We have asked ConocoPhillips to report to us on how the non-conformities will be addressed. We have also asked the company for an assessment of the improvement points observed.

The deadline for this is set at 18 February 2019.
