From 18 to 26 September 2019, we carried out an audit of Aker BP and Maersk Drilling relating to their planning and execution of drilling and well operations at Valhall Flank West using Maersk Invincible.

Objective

The objective of the audit was to verify that Aker BP and Maersk Drilling, together with the subcontractors, are meeting the regulatory requirements for planning, risk assessment and execution of drilling and well operations at Valhall Flank West. This included verifying that all participants in the activity were aware of and understood their own responsibilities.

Result

Three non-conformities were identified in connection with:

  • Storage of radioactive sources (Maersk Drilling)
  • Maintenance programme (Maersk Drilling)
  • Inadequate transfer of experience (Aker BP and Maersk Drilling)

Four improvement points were identified in connection with:

  • Unclear roles and deficient requirements for conducting training and exercises (Aker BP)
  • Deficient requirements for well control competence (Aker BP)
  • Unclear requirements for risk assessment competence (Aker BP)
  • Storage of explosives (Maersk Drilling)

What happens next?

Aker BP and Maersk Drilling have been given a deadline of 15 January 2020 to report on how the non-conformities and improvement points will be addressed.
