The thematic booklet “HSE and culture” provides approaches to understanding the concept, and input on how the requirement for a sound HSE culture can be achieved.

Preconditions for a sound HSE culture are

  • that activities to safeguard health, safety and the environment are not seen as isolated from each other
  • that there is a proper balance between the individual’s own responsibility for HSE and the enterprise’s responsibility for facilitating sound working conditions.

The booklet offers no blueprints, but is intended to assist the industry in its efforts to improve the HSE culture.

Among other things, we highlight the importance of viewing different HSE measures in context, systematically and critically examining one’s own HSE activities, focusing more intently on the “H” and the “E” aspects, and working continuously, instead of in intense bursts, to improve the level of HSE.
