Virtually all the agency’s work ultimately helps to safeguard the environment, because many types of potential incidents also pose the threat of acute emissions or discharges.
Good management is again an important aspect of environmental protection, and the PSA sits on several working parties involved in preparing plans to manage sea areas. The aim of such participation is to help ensure that accident prevention measures find a clear expression in the risk assessments made.

It does this by adapting the regulations to facilitate adoption of new technology and solutions by the industry which can cut emissions. At the same time, it checks that the players ensure such new solutions are also acceptable in safety terms.
