Our information policy
”The information issued by the Petroleum Safety Authority Norway to the industry, the media and the general public shall be characterised by openness, accessibility and correctness. On the basis of the special position the oil and gas industry has in Norwegian society, we will issue information about our activities and reply to questions to the extent possible and prudent - on the basis of our role as an administrative body and the overall objectives of the Petroleum Safety Authority Norway."
Our information policy has its legal basis in, inter alia, the resolution relating to the establishment of the PSA, issued by the Crown Prince regent in council, which states that the PSA shall "carry out information and advisory activities vis-à-vis the players in the industry, establish practical cooperation relationships with other national and international HSE authorities, as well as contribute actively to the transfer of knowledge in the area of health, safety and environment in society in general."
Media handling
We handle all inquiries from the media according to our information policy This means that we reply to questions to the extent possible and prudent – on the basis of our role as an administrative body and our overall objectives.
In addition to direct media contact, we use our website to issue information about our follow-up of undesirable incidents and other matters. In general, we publish editorial articles in connection with our own actions; when initiating our own investigations, submitting investigation reports, etc
Media handling in an emergency situation
In an emergency situation related to a serious incident, the PSA supervises the operator's compliance with the regulations, including a continuous assessment of the measures implemented to regain control of the situation. (Link to more information about our emergency preparedness tasks).
Information to the media within the areas we supervise forms part of our tasks in an emergency situation.
