Report on technology status for bonded flexible pipes

09.12.2009 | A new status report summarises the knowledge available on bonded flexible pipes. The study was carried out after the rupture in the offloading hose on Statfjord A in December 2007.

The loading incident on Statfjord A (link to article) identified the need for an overview of all knowledge relating to bonded flexible pipes.

Consequently, the Petroleum Safety Authority Norway (PSA) commissioned the company 4Subsea to conduct this study, with contributions from material technology experts, manufacturers, suppliers and users.

The report takes into account ranges of use, design criteria, operating experience, operating challenges, degradation mechanisms and reported errors and defects.

The study will contribute towards making updated knowledge about bonded flexible pipes available, and clarify challenges which the industry must be aware of when using bonded flexible pipes.
