IRF is an informal but nevertheless important forum for collaboration between authorities that regulate safety issues of the oil and gas industry in various countries and provinces of the world.
Participants at the meeting were leaders and key personnel of regulators of Australia, Brazil, the USA, Canada, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and Norway.
At the meeting, members reported on significant incidents and events that had taken place in their jurisdictions during the past year. In addition, updates were given on projects that the members currently cooperate on, such as, promoting safer crane and lifting operations, regulatory efforts to contribute to ensuring asset integrity in the industry and the development of common criteria of the members for reporting incidents and comparable performance measures.
Great immediate interest was attached to the members’ presentations and debates on issues like the improved Norwegian evacuation, rescue systems and equipment, safer transportation of personnel to and from offshore installations, and about particular safety challenges related to exploration and exploitation activities in the Arctic environment. Furthermore, the forum examined several serious incidents that occurred last year in the members’ oil and gas jurisdictions.
