Consent to use Mærsk Giant for drilling of sidetrack on Varg

Consent: Talisman Energy Norge AS (Talisman) has been granted consent to use the mobile facility Mærsk Giant for the drilling of a new sidetrack in well 15/12-17A.

The well is located in the Varg Sør area, approximately 230 kilometres west of Egersund. After drilling and completion of the sidetrack, the well will produce gas/condensate and be tied in to existing subsea facilities on the Rev field. Production will be routed to the Armada facility on the British Shelf.

Mærsk Giant (photo) is a mobile jack-up drilling facility owned and operated by the A.P. Møller-Mærsk Group.

Mærsk Giant

The facility was built in Japan by Hitachi and commissioned in 1986. Mærsk Giant can operate in water depths of up to 107 metres and can accommodate 87 persons.

The facility received an Acknowledgement of Compliance (AoC) in February 2002.

According to Talisman, drilling will commence at the end of July 2008 at the earliest and is expected to last for approximately 62 days.
