Consent to conduct exploration drilling with Transocean Winner – well 9/2-11

09.03.2010 | Consent: Talisman Energy Norge AS (TENAS) has received consent to conduct exploration drilling in the southern North Sea using the mobile facility Transocean Winner.

The consent relates to the drilling of exploration well 9/2-11, which is located about 11 km north of Yme (see map) and is part of production licence 316 DS.

The well has the following geographical coordinates:

N 57° 55' 21.466",  E 4° 33' 35.709". The water depth at the site is approx. 100 metres.

The drilling activity is scheduled to start in March 2010, and has an expected duration of about 40 days.

Transocean Winner is a third-generation semi-submersible drilling facility of the GVA-4000 design, built in 1983 at Gøtaverken Arendal in Gothenburg, Sweden.

The facility is owned by Transocean Offshore and operated by Transocean Offshore (North Sea) Ltd NUF, with headquarters in Stavanger.

The Transocean Winner received the PSA's Acknowledgement of Compliance (AoC) in August 2006 (link).

A sign of confidence

By issuing a consent, the HSE authorities indicate that they are confident the company can work in line with the regulations and with the information provided in its application.

The regulator determines in each case how extensive and detailed a consideration it will give to the request for a consent.
