Marathon Petroleum Norge AS (Marathon) has been given consent to carry out manned underwater operations on Volund and Alvheim in connection with the development of the fields.

The scheduled work is estimated to take 80 days with start-up around 7 January 2008. The work will be performed in six phases, and each phase will take approx. 14 days.

Alvheim
The field is developed with seabed facilities tied in to a production and oil storage facility. The contractor Aibel (formerly Vetco Aibel) has worked on the ship since March last year to modify the tanker "Odin" into an FPSO*.

*FPSO
Abbreviation for Floating Production, Storage and Offloading. Mobile production facility.

Volund
The Volund field is located in block 24/9 in the Heimdal area, 10 km south of the Alvheim field. Three production wells and one water injection well are being planned. The well stream will consist of oil and gas and will be transported to Alvheim by pipeline.
