Background for the audit
The audit activity was conducted on the basis of the temporary regulations relating to safety and working environment for certain petroleum facilities on land and associated pipeline systems, which refer to the Major Accident Regulations.
Statoil submitted a safety report to the authorities on 5 October 2006, pursuant to Section 9 of the Major Accident Regulations. The audit activity is the first activity aimed at preventing and limiting the consequences of major accidents at Hammerfest LNG.
Purpose of the audit
The purpose of the audit was to verify compliance with applicable regulations in areas that have an impact on the risk of major accidents. Prioritized areas were risk mapping, emergency preparedness, maintenance and training and competence in relation to requirements in the Major Accident Regulations and other relevant regulations.
Result of the audit
The presentations given and the interviews with key employees in the organization clearly indicated that the work to establish and maintain prudent HSE performance is assigned priority in Hammerfest LNG and that Statoil is on the right course as regards further development towards safe operation of the facility.
