Groups exposed to risk

Groups exposed to risk

The risk of suffering a work-related illness or injury differs from one occupation to another. It is also influenced by varying frame conditions, such as contractual terms or frequent changes of work location and organisation.

In addition to the distress of sufferers, occupational ill-health and injuries incur substantial costs for society. But the risk of such harm is unevenly distributed.

Those most exposed include workers who come into contact with harmful chemicals, high noise levels or jobs which cause repetitive strain injuries.

The PSA will seek to influence the companies to secure a full overview of the risk of occupational illness and injury, and to use such knowledge to take the most needful and effective action.

That contractor personnel are more exposed to such harm than operator employees has been thoroughly documented, but the reasons remain unclear.

It is therefore important that all the players collectively develop frame conditions which help to reduce the risk for everyone – regardless of who employs them.
