Emergency preparedness

Terrorism emergency preparedness

01.02.2008 | Increased focus on terrorism and sabotage in society in general also includes the petroleum industry. Petroleum facilities offshore and on land are important infrastructure elements. Terrorism and sabotage can have a significant impact on Norwegian interests.

The establishment and follow-up of an efficient emergency preparedness against terrorism and sabotage places new demands on both the authorities and the industry. Therefore, the PSA maintains regular dialogue with other authorities, for example the police and Armed Forces.

The regulations require that the operators implement measures which should contribute to prevent deliberate attacks on the facilities. The operators must also put the facilities at the disposal of the authorities in connection with exercises.

The operators' compliance with the regulation is followed up through audits. Exercises are carried out on a regular basis, where both the authorities and the industry are involved - to ensure that the emergency response is at an acceptable level
