The consent relates to the drilling of exploration well 24/12-6 S in production licence 341. The prospect to be examined is called ”Stirby”.

The well is located due west of Haugesund, about 180 kilometres from the Norwegian coast, six kilometres from the UK sector and about 43 kilometres from the Grane field.
The water depth at the site is 115 metres.
The earliest expected start-up of the drilling activity is 1 June 2010. The drilling activity has an estimated duration of 110 days, excluding testing of the well.
Det norske is the operator of production licence 341, with an ownership interest of 30 per cent. The other licensees are Talisman Energy Norge AS (18 per cent), Wintershall Norge AS (20 per cent), Marathon Energy (12 per cent), Bayerngas Produksjon Norge AS (10 per cent) and Spring Energy Norway AS (10 per cent).
The semi-submersible drilling facility Songa Delta is owned by Songa Offshore and operated by Odfjell Drilling.
Songa Delta is a third-generation mobile drilling facility of the Ocean Ranger type, commissioned at Rauma Repola in Finland in 1981. The facility has been modified a number of times, and is registered in Norway with Det Norske Veritas (DNV) as classification society.
Songa Delta received the PSA's Acknowledgement of Compliance (AoC) in June 2009.
